El CIFP Mendizabala LHII ha acogido del 11 al 15 mayo la segunda actividad formativa internacional del proyecto Erasmus+ KA2 Plant & Paint – Natural Paints for Sustainable Art and Crafts. Bajo el lema “Beauture: Beauty & Nature”, profesorado y especialistas de las instituciones colaboradoras se han reunido para explorar cómo los pigmentos naturales y los ingredientes de origen vegetal pueden transformarse en productos sostenibles para el cuidado personal, el arte y el bienestar.
Los participantes han combinado talleres prácticos, visitas culturales y momentos de relajación, descubriendo cómo la Formación Profesional puede integrar creatividad, sostenibilidad y bienestar.
Bienvenida a Mendizabala
La formación comenzó el lunes por la mañana con una recepción en Mendizabala. Tras las actividades de presentación y una visita guiada por el centro, los participantes asistieron a la inauguración oficial de nuestro Jardín Tintóreo.
Este nuevo espacio educativo está dedicado al cultivo de plantas tintóreas y aromáticas que pueden utilizarse en arte, cosmética y artesanía. El jardín simboliza perfectamente el espíritu del proyecto Plant & Paint, mostrando cómo la naturaleza puede convertirse en fuente de inspiración y recurso didáctico.
Después del brunch, los asistentes participaron en el primer taller de la semana: serigrafía con pigmentos vegetales. Guiados por el profesorado aprendieron a transferir colores botánicos sobre tela y papel mediante técnicas sostenibles.
Por la tarde, quienes lo desearon realizaron una visita opcional al Anillo Verde y al Jardín Botánico de Vitoria-Gasteiz.
Cosmética natural a partir de plantas
El martes estuvo dedicado a la elaboración de cosmética natural. La jornada comenzó con actividades de relajación en el jardín, favoreciendo la conexión con la naturaleza y preparando el ambiente para los talleres.
En el primer taller, los participantes elaboraron jabones artesanales utilizando aceite reciclado y pigmentos vegetales, comprobando cómo los residuos pueden transformarse en productos útiles y respetuosos con el medio ambiente.
A continuación, extrajeron ceras naturales para crear bálsamos labiales y velas de masaje con aromas y colores vegetales.
La comida fue otro momento especial, ya que todos colaboraron en la preparación y degustación de una deliciosa paella en Mendizabala, fortaleciendo el espíritu de equipo y el intercambio cultural.
Por la tarde, se visitó la Catedral de Santa María y el casco histórico de la ciudad.
Descubriendo el Valle Salado de Añana
El miércoles el grupo se desplazó al espectacular Valle Salado de Añana, uno de los paisajes culturales más singulares de Europa.
Durante la visita, los participantes conocieron las técnicas tradicionales de extracción de sal y disfrutaron de un relajante baño de pies con aguas ricas en minerales. Inspirados por esta experiencia, elaboraron posteriormente sales de baño y bombas efervescentes utilizando sal de Añana y pigmentos vegetales.
Tras la comida, el grupo regresó a Vitoria-Gasteiz con tiempo libre para disfrutar de la ciudad.
Bienestar, multimedia y tintes capilares naturales
El jueves comenzó nuevamente con actividades de relajación en el Jardín Tintóreo. Después, los participantes realizaron una actividad multimedia para documentar los productos elaborados durante la semana y disfrutaron de tratamientos faciales y corporales utilizando los cosméticos creados en los talleres.
El último taller técnico estuvo dedicado al teñido capilar con henna, mostrando alternativas naturales a los tintes convencionales.
Por la tarde, se organizó una visita opcional a los murales y al casco histórico de Vitoria-Gasteiz, seguida de un tradicional pintxo-pote.
Presentación final y despedida
La mañana del viernes comenzó con una actividad creativa y simbólica: la decoración de una furgoneta con motivos vegetales inspirados en las experiencias de la semana.
Posteriormente tuvo lugar la sesión de evaluación y la ceremonia de clausura, en la que los socios compartieron conclusiones, aprendizajes e ideas para aplicar en sus centros.
La semana concluyó con una entrañable comida de despedida en una tradicional sociedad gastronómica, donde los participantes pudieron disfrutar de la hospitalidad y la cultura culinaria del País Vasco.
Aprender de la naturaleza, crecer juntos
La formación en Vitoria-Gasteiz demostró que la sostenibilidad puede ser creativa, práctica y profundamente enriquecedora. Los participantes aprendieron a utilizar plantas como fuente de pigmentos, aromas e ingredientes para cosmética, arte y artesanía, al tiempo que descubrieron el valor educativo de los jardines escolares, las tradiciones locales y el aprendizaje colaborativo.
Más allá de los conocimientos técnicos adquiridos, esta semana fortaleció los lazos entre los socios y reafirmó nuestro compromiso común con una Formación Profesional más sostenible e innovadora.

Plant & Paint Partners Gather in Vitoria-Gasteiz for a Week of Beauty, Nature and Sustainable Creativity
From 11 to 15 May 2026, CIFP Mendizabala LHII in Vitoria-Gasteiz, in the heart of the Basque Country, had the pleasure of hosting the fifth international training activity of the Erasmus+ KA2 project Plant & Paint – Natural Paints for Sustainable Art and Crafts.
Under the inspiring theme “Beauture: Beauty & Nature”, teachers and experts from partner institutions came together to explore how natural pigments and plant-based ingredients can be transformed into sustainable products for personal care, art and wellness.
Throughout the week, participants combined practical workshops, cultural visits and moments of relaxation, discovering how vocational education can connect creativity, sustainability and wellbeing.
A Warm Welcome to Mendizabala
The training began on Monday morning with a warm reception at Mendizabala. After introductory activities and a guided tour of the school, participants visited one of the highlights of the week: the official opening of our Tinctoreum Garden.
This new educational space is dedicated to growing dye plants and aromatic species that can be used in art, cosmetics and crafts. The garden symbolizes the spirit of the Plant & Paint project, showing how nature can become both a source of inspiration and a practical learning resource.
After brunch, participants took part in the first workshop of the week: silkscreen printing with plant-based pigments. They learned how to transfer botanical colours onto fabric and paper using sustainable techniques.
In the afternoon, those who wished joined an optional visit to Vitoria-Gasteiz’s Green Ring and Botanical Garden, two outstanding examples of the city’s commitment to sustainability.
Natural Cosmetics from Plants
Tuesday focused on creating natural cosmetic products.
The day started with relaxing activities in the garden, helping participants connect with nature and prepare for the creative sessions.
The first workshop introduced participants to traditional soap making using recycled cooking oil and plant pigments. This activity demonstrated how waste materials can be transformed into useful, environmentally friendly products.
Later, participants extracted natural waxes and used them to make lip balms and massage candles, enriched with botanical colours and fragrances.
Lunch was a special highlight: everyone worked together to cook and enjoy a delicious paella at Mendizabala, strengthening team spirit and intercultural exchange.
The day concluded with a guided visit to the Cathedral of Santa María and an exploration of the rich history of Vitoria-Gasteiz.
Discovering the Salt Valley of Añana
Wednesday took the group outside the city to visit the spectacular Salt Valley of Añana, one of the oldest salt production sites in Europe.
Participants learned about the centuries-old traditions of salt extraction and enjoyed a relaxing foot spa using the valley’s mineral-rich waters.
Inspired by the visit, they then created bath salts and bath bombs using Añana salt and plant pigments. This workshop perfectly illustrated how local natural resources and traditional knowledge can be incorporated into modern, sustainable products.
After lunch in the surrounding area, participants returned to Vitoria-Gasteiz with free time to explore the city.
Wellness, Multimedia and Natural Hair Dye
Thursday began once again with relaxation in the Tinctoreum Garden.
Participants then took part in a multimedia activity documenting the products created during the week, followed by practical facial and body treatments using the soaps, candles and cosmetics they had made themselves.
The final technical workshop focused on plant-based hair dyeing with henna, introducing participants to natural alternatives to conventional hair colouring products.
After another collaborative lunch at school, the afternoon offered an optional tour of Vitoria-Gasteiz’s urban art murals and historic centre, followed by a traditional pintxo-pote, a popular Basque custom of enjoying drinks accompanied by complimentary pintxos.
Final Creations and Farewell Celebration
On Friday morning, participants worked together on a fun and symbolic artistic activity: decorating a van with plant motifs inspired by the week’s experiences.
The training concluded with an evaluation session and closing ceremony, where partners reflected on the knowledge gained, the workshops developed and the ideas they plan to transfer to their own institutions.
The week ended with a memorable farewell lunch in a traditional Basque gastronomic society, offering participants a final taste of Basque culture and hospitality.
Learning from Nature, Growing Together
The training week in Vitoria-Gasteiz demonstrated that sustainability can be creative, practical and deeply enriching.
Participants learned how plants can provide pigments, aromas and ingredients for cosmetics, art and crafts, while also discovering the educational value of school gardens, local traditions and collaborative learning.
Beyond the technical skills acquired, the week strengthened the bonds among project partners and reaffirmed the shared commitment to integrating sustainability into vocational education.
