La tercera sesión de formación del proyecto de asociación de cooperación del Programa Erasmus+ (KA2) “Pinturas naturales para el arte y la artesanía sostenibles” (Plant & Paint) se ha celebrado en la ciudad de Volos, Grecia, organizada por el 1st EPAL Neas Ionias Magnisias. Participantes de Letonia, Portugal, Chequia, Finlandia, Italia, Mendizabala (País Vasco) y el país anfitrión se han reunido para explorar el tema “La paleta de la naturaleza: una experiencia sensorial.” Dos profesoras y dos alumnas de Mendizabala han tenido la oportunidad inolvidable de disfrutar esta inolvidable experiencia.
Llegada y jornada inaugural
El 11 de mayo de 2025, los diferentes grupos llegaron a Volos y se alojaron en el Park Hotel, donde compartieron su primera cena. El día 12 comenzó con una cálida bienvenida en la escuela, seguida de una actividad de cohesión grupal y presentaciones sobre el uso de plantas y hierbas en cada país. El día continuó con dos talleres centrados en la elaboración de cosméticos naturales mejorados y coloreados con aceites esenciales y plantas. La jornada concluyó con una cena en un tradicional Tsipouradiko.
Naturaleza, cultura y creatividad
El 13 de mayo, los participantes visitaron el Centro de Educación Ambiental de Makrinitsa, en el monte Pelión, donde identificaron y recolectaron plantas locales. Luego participaron en un taller de impresión en gel para crear envases artísticos y disfrutaron de una breve clase de danza Syrtaki. Tras la comida en el pueblo de Portaria, visitaron la empresa local de tés y cosmética natural MYRRO, donde degustaron infusiones y conocieron su filosofía.
Talleres y patrimonio cultural
El 14 de mayo se realizó un taller sobre producción de sales marinas empaquetado con plantas, seguido de una sesión en la Universidad de Tesalia sobre la destilación de aceites esenciales de hierbas locales. Por la tarde, visitaron el Museo Lykeion Ellinidon, que expone trajes tradicionales teñidos con tintes naturales.
Explorando la región de Pelión
El 15 de mayo, los participantes descubrieron la belleza natural y cultural de la región de Pelión, visitando la iglesia de Agion Taksiarhon en Milies, sus frescos impresionantes y la playa de Mylopotamos. Un paseo guiado por los caminos de Tsagarada, con explicación botánica, completó la jornada, que finalizó con una cena de despedida junto al mar en el restaurante “Aura”.
Conclusiones finales y presentaciones
El último día, 16 de mayo, comenzó con una visita al Museo Arqueológico de Volos para conocer el uso de plantas en el mundo antiguo. Posteriormente, los participantes realizaron presentaciones finales en el parque, recibieron certificados, hicieron fotos grupales y compartieron la última comida antes de partir.
La tercera sesión de formación en Volos fue un viaje sensorial que combinó talleres prácticos, patrimonio cultural y colaboración internacional. Los aprendizajes adquiridos seguirán enriqueciendo el camino del proyecto Plant & Paint.

Reflecting on the Third Training Session in Volos, Greece
The third training session of the Erasmus+ Programme cooperation partnership (Key Action 2) project “Natural paints for Sustainable art and crafts” (Plant & Paint) took place in the city of Volos, Greece, hosted by 1st EPAL Neas Ionias Magnisias. Participants from Latvia, Portugal, Czechia, Finland, Italy, Mendizabala (Basque Country), and the host country gathered to explore the theme “Nature’s Palette: A Sensory Experience.” Two teachers and two students from Mendizabala had the opportunity to attend this unforgettable experience.
Arrival and Opening Day
On May 11th, 2025, all teams arrived in Volos and settled into the Park Hotel, where they shared the first dinner together. On May 12th, participants were warmly welcomed at the school and began with a team-building activity, followed by short group presentations on the uses of plants and herbs in each country. The day continued with two engaging workshops on creating natural cosmetics enhanced and colored with essential oils, herbs, and plants. The evening concluded with dinner at a traditional Tsipouradiko.
Nature, Culture, and Creativity
On May 13th, the group visited the Environmental Education Centre of Makrinitsa in the Pelion Mountains, where they learned to identify and collect local herbs. This was followed by a creative gel printing workshop for packaging and a short Syrtaki dance lesson. After lunch in Portaria village, the group visited MYRRO, a local tea and skincare company, where they enjoyed a tea tasting and presentation.
Workshops and Cultural Heritage
The training continued on May 14th with a workshop on producing sea salts packaged with plants, and a university session on the distillation of essential oils from local herbs at the University of Thessaly. In the afternoon, participants visited the Lykeion Ellinidon Museum, where they saw traditional costumes and fabrics dyed with natural colors.
Exploring the Pelion Region
On May 15th, participants explored the cultural and natural beauty of the Pelion region, visiting the church of Agion Taksiarhon in Milies, admiring its impressive frescoes, and relaxing at Mylopotamos beach. A guided walk through the herb-rich paths of Tsagarada village deepened their connection with Greek botanical traditions. The day ended with a farewell dinner by the sea at the “Aura” restaurant.
Final Reflections and Presentations
The final day, May 16th, began with a visit to the Archaeological Museum of Volos for an exploration of plants and herbs in the ancient world. Later, participants presented their final reflections in the park, received certificates, took group photos, and shared a final lunch before departing.
The third training session in Volos was a multisensory journey combining hands-on workshops, cultural heritage, and international collaboration. The knowledge and experiences gained will continue to enrich the journey of the Plant & Paint project.
